La Familia Board Chair Receives MOVE-UP Award from Mayor
Albuquerque: Officials of La Familia, Inc. announced the nomination of Allison Pieroni, Esq. for the MOVE-UP Award ceremony held on November 24th at the Albuquerque Museum of Art. Allison accepted her award from Mayor Martin Chavez for having been a volunteer board member at La Familia for more than 6 years. During her tenure, Allison served on several committees including budget and finance, personnel and several sub-committees. Before her nomination as Board Chair, she served as chairperson for the Community Recognition Committee. This committee was formed to let the community know about all the support services La Familia offers to low to moderate income New Mexico families.
Because of Allison’s personal dedication on this particular committee, she has been instrumental in bringing about community awareness around the value of La Familia’s programs and services that provide adoption, treatment foster care, outpatient counseling services, and to finding permanent loving homes for at-risk children.
La Familia’s mission is to be “The Children’s Safety Net” and it truly takes all of us to provide a safety net for our children, says Beverly Nomberg, CEO and President of La Familia. We are so proud that Allison’s efforts have been acknowledged and rewarded by the Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism and Engagement.

La Familia Honors Treatment Foster Parents
Albuquerque: Officials at La Familia, Inc. announced plans to host a luncheon for their Treatment Foster Parents to celebrate National Foster Care Month held each May.
La Familia was founded in 1987 to be “The Children’s Safety Net.” In 1991, the Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program was formed to focus on the special needs and behavioral challenges of children. This is accomplished through the establishment of a therapeutic milieu in a home environment, advocacy in the community and collaboration with therapeutic providers.
Working closely with the Children, Youth and Families Department, La Familia places abused or neglected children into nurturing environments provided by over 60 compassionate foster parent families that are recruited, trained, licensed and supported by agency therapists, treatment coordinators and staff to help these children overcome their troubled childhoods and realize their full potential, from infant to age 20.
“We have many success stories,” says Jennifer Minarsich-Noble, La Familia’s Director of Treatment Foster Care. “Our dedicated families take the time to offer comfort, provide support, give advice and make meaningful connections with these children struggling with life’s challenges.”
“The La Familia staff wants our families to know how much their time and efforts are appreciated,” says Jennifer, “and this parent appreciation lunch scheduled for May 18th, is just a small token to honor the immense contributions made by these unsung heroes!”
