How to Become A Treatment Parent

Screening Process and Criteria
La Familia Incorporated is highly committed to maintaining children and youth in homes in our community. Placing children in treatment foster homes is one way to maintain a child in a home while providing intensive support and wrap-around services. La Familia recruits prospective treatment parents who demonstrate sufficient time, energy, and parenting skills for working with emotionally challenged youth. In order to qualify for treatment parent candidacy, an individual must be at least 25 years old. Preferably, a candidate would have some experience working with abused and neglected children. In compliance with New Mexico State Licensing and Certification standards, La Familia requires 40 hours of pre-licensing training for treatment foster parent candidates, in addition to completion of all licensing paperwork and criminal records checks.
