8 post-decree services and coordinated 68 days of
respite. We hired two Spanish speaking contract
workers to increase our ability to provide services
to Spanish speaking families hoping to adopt through
the state foster care system.

Adopt US Kids
La Familia collaborates with the Adoption Exchange and the Children, Youth and Families department to provide quick response to families responding to the enormous media campaign with the tag line, “You don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent”. We provide bridging, referrals and resources to over 130 families per year through our contract with the ‘Adopt US Kids’ program.

Infant Adoption Awareness
Training Project

La Familia is in its sixth year of funding to provide trainings to healthcare providers throughout the state about presenting adoption as an option to their patients and clients. We hold a minimum of 25 trainings per year and are required to train at least 250 individual participants.

PERFORMANCE & EQUITY
IMPROVEMENT (PQI)
Darla Wilson, BS

PQI at its very essence has only one goal: to improve the quality of life for those whom we are privileged to serve. It involves every department, every program, clients; families; employees; board members and members of the community outside of the agency. In short, PQI is an ongoing, evolving, agency process that looks at all sorts of things, evaluates what it sees, and then decides whether or not to make changes. If changes are made, it evaluates those as well, to determine their effectiveness.

The PQI planning component develops a performance and quality improvement plan that serves to guide and structure specific performance measurements and performance improvement activities.

In PQI planning seven areas are monitored:
• Client Case Records (Peer Reviews)
• Client Outcomes
• Program Performance
• Employee Satisfaction
• Client Satisfaction
• Stakeholder Input
• Risk Assessment (Incidents, Accidents, and
  Grievances)

All these activities are to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of our programs and in clinical outcomes. Performance improvement activities include the implementation of action plans; i.e., performance improvement projects which will positively impact our programs and existing systems.

We then communicate to all stakeholders (the agency programs and departments, consumers, families, providers, and the community) how well the agency has performed fiscally, how well it has performed in achieving program outcomes, and to identify areas in the agency that improvement is needed. The vehicle for reporting is Darla Wilson and our annual report.

FREIND RAISER
Emily Koplik, MSW

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, August 19th, 2007 we
gathered at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Cultural Center in Los Ranchos De Albuquerque, for La Familia’s first FRIEND RAISER. We joined with friends, staff, and Board members to hear about the origins of La Familia, from Senator Jerry Ortiz Y Pino and to learn about the children served by the agency. A jazz trio lead by Steve Figueroa played on the patio and light hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed by the 75 friends who attended. It was really amazing to have so many gathered to hear about the agency and to celebrate together the first 20 years of La Familia’s service to the children of New Mexico.
