youth to live successfully in families by minimizing the negative effects of limited resources, abuse, neglect and multiple placements. By valuing each other and making a commitment to learn and grow together we challenge ourselves everyday to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve with compassion, integrity, professionalism and respect.

We want to thank the treatment foster care families for their dedication and hard work in taking care of the children. We appreciate our staff for all of their excellent work and perseverance.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
Claire Barr, LPCC
In June of 2006, La Familia made a strategic move to develop a department designed to meet the needs of at-risk children and families by working with them in their home setting. The Core Service Department, later to be renamed as the Community Services Department was implemented to meet New Mexico’s
commitment to serving at-risk children and their families without removing the child from the home. During its first year, the Community Services
Department served more than 100 families, assisting them in achieving stability and increased positive family functioning. In addition to providing in-home services, the Community Services Department provided psychiatry and out-patient therapy to children and families in La Familia’s Community Services, Treatment Foster Care, Adoption and Deaf Group Home programs. During 2006-2007, over 50 children and adolescents were able to take part in the Community Services Department Equine-assisted Psychotherapy program. This program utilizes horses as therapy partners for children and adolescents who are among the most vulnerable. United Way of Central New Mexico helps fund our Equine Therapy program. Also during 2006-2007, the School Based Social Work program was transferred into the Community Services Department. Through a contract with the Robert F. Kenney Charter School, three School Based Social Workers provided a wide range of services to the at-risk high school population that RFK serves. Community Services is proud of its collaborative partnerships with: the Children Youth and Families Department; juvenile justice system; psychiatric hospitals; residential treatment centers and other providers of out-patient services as all work together in order to best meet the needs of our most vulnerable and at-risk children and families.

DEAF GROUP HOME
David Sorensen, LPCC

The Deaf Group Home has had another wonderful year. We ended the year with six students from Delaware, California, Oregon and New Mexico. There were five boys and one girl at the end of the fiscal year. The DGH continues to receive referrals from all over the United States. We have had one student graduate from the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe. There were two students attending the ACCESS program (transition from school to work/independence) through the Albuquerque Public Schools.
