TREATMENT FOSTER CARE PROGRAM

Looking back over 2007 and reflecting on our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program, I appreciate all of the growth and excitement. There have been changes and renewed commitments. During the past year, 38 youth in the TFC program have achieved permanency. These young people went on to be adopted, emancipated or reunified with their family. Two of our treatment foster families adopted children in their care. The TFC staff is passionate about working with children and families to live safely and successfully in their community as they move out of TFC.

Currently, La Familia has 61 licensed treatment foster homes in and around the Albuquerque area. Many of our families have more than five years of experience providing treatment foster care services for special needs children. Families receive numerous training opportunities in order to support them in their role as professional treatment foster parents. The TFC program has implemented many new groups and trainings over the past year in order to support the families.

La Familia placed 52 children and discharged 52 children during the calendar year. La Familia TFC assists families with reunification whenever possible. La Familia helped over 24 children return to their biological families including parents and extended family members. La Familia TFC also supported more than 13 adoptions.

The TFC program saw a change in directorship in July of 2007. The new TFC leadership team has renewed passion and continues to focus on quality and integrity. The study will help evaluate the performance of La Familia’s Treatment Foster Care program and compare it to the performance of peer treatment foster care programs nationwide. This FFTA study also provides a way for La Familia to measure its own client outcomes in a systematic fashion.

The TFC staff is committed to the integrity of the program. This includes support for our families and staff to be successful in their work through encouragement, training, supervision, and serious attention to adherence to policies and standards. We set a high standard for ourselves to provide a collaborative and relationship-based, family-focused philosophy that models and teaches children and
