The past fiscal year was the first time we ended with positive numbers. By the end of the year our census was five, three boys and two girls. At one point the DGH had six students in residence. There were only two discharges during the year. Geographically, our students hailed from California, Arizona and New Mexico. Several students graduated from high school in May and are currently in the ACCESS program through the Albuquerque Public Schools (transitional from school to work program). All of these students are currently working in the community. The DGH clinical director attended several conferences and job fairs in Florida, California and locally to promote our pro-gram. A mass mailing went out to mental health agencies throughout the United States. Southwest Services for the Deaf maintains a website that markets La Familia’s programs. Southwest Services for the Deaf has run monthly advertisements in the Deaf Digest, an on-line periodical. Our staff has been stable in terms of turn over. There were only two staff who left the

DGH during the year. Staff training has been on-going: Violence in the Workplace, Cultural Sensitivity, TCI Training and Love and Logic to name only a few. The DGH went through a number of recertifications during the year. The State Board of Pharmacy passed us without any corrective actions; California out of state group home certification passed the DGH and CYFD passed the DGH.The students enjoyed a year of diverse activities: the DGH students attended several theatrical performances at the NM School for the Deaf, College Bowl at the NM School for the Deaf, the annual Zorba festivities in Santa Fe; attended football games at the NM School for the Deaf, numerous Deaf Cultural Center activities; attended several Lobo football and basketball games and students participated in city league softball team and other exciting activities. The DGH has continued to be part of the local residential community. Some of the students have worked with local residences assisting with gardening and cleaning of homes. |

Domestic Adoption
La Familia provides compassionate, unbiased options-based counseling for pregnant women and their partners. During the last year, we served 43 women, their partners and families in the Pregnancy Counseling program. Our caring, experienced staff explored all available resources and choices with each client. 22 women chose to make an adoption plan. They were able to select, meet and develop a relationship with their child’s adoptive family. Several birthparents took part in a newly developed individualized birthing class taught by a volunteer licensed Nurse Practioner/Midwife. Unlimited adoption related counseling was provided prior to |

the child’s birth and after placement. 28 families completed preparations to adopt in the last year. Adoptive families were provided with homestudies, pre and post-placement support, education & resources. A staff member is on call 24 hours a day to provide support during crisis situations. In the 2007 year, we will be offering monthly training and support groups for adoptive families on topics including attachment and bonding, multicultural living, special needs and Basic Infant Care.
