| youth aging out of the system to live independently. Youth in TFC present with additional challenges due to the long standing effects of early trauma and disrupted relationships. They need to learn how to manage their mental health challenges on their own with limited resources. La Familia is committed to developing stronger programs in order to more adequately prepare youth for this transition. We are presently providing youth groups with emphasis on life skills development. We are providing specialized training for our treatment parents who work with older youth and we are writing grants in order to fund more services for this underserved population.Treatment Foster Care expanded services this past year to include home based, case management and transitional living services. program. Some of our therapeutic parents provided support to biological parents in the home based program through side by side parenting and coaching on interventions. Who better than experienced treatment parents to “teach” the therapeutic model? Recently these programs were transferred to a newly formed department, Core Services, for further development and implementation. Overall it has been a successful year in Treatment Foster Care at La Familia. We want to especially thank the treatment foster parents and the treatment foster care staff for the outstanding commitment and work that they do.
