The implementation of Cornell University’s Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) curriculum was the largest challenge this past year for La Familia’s training department.  Because of administrator, staff and treatment foster parent enthusiasm and commitment, all Treatment Foster Care (TFC) and Outpatient staff members, and nearly all treatment foster parents completed the TCI certification by the 2002 deadline.

The training department continues to be actively involved with treatment foster and adoptive parent candidate training, as well as on-going training for parents and staff.  Resource groups for adoptive parents and families of origin were initiated this past year and will continue into 2003.  The Training Collaborative, a training partnership between several TFC agencies , as well as Children Youth and Families gained three more member agencies this last year.  The Collaborative,

instead of focusing on monthly training, is currently discussing the possibility of collaborating to bring in national speakers next year.  The Training Collaborative also initiated a new committee this year called the Wellness Collaborative.  The goal of the Wellness Collaborative is to identify and support the initiation of promising practices in the area of staff and Treatment Foster Parent wellness and self-care.

2002 Annual Report

Text Box: who provide everything from adoption services, psychiatry and therapy to computer services. By using independent contractors we are able to provide services throughout New Mexico and hold cost to practical minimums. A substantial part of 2002 has been spent in completing our re-accreditation self-study for the Council on Accreditation for Programs for Families and Children. Doing the agency self study is best seen as “changing all four tires as you drive down the Text Box: interstate at 75 miles per hour.” We must continue to deliver services while we rewrite all of our policies and procedures, implement the changes and hopefully keep our sanity. We will complete the self-study process and mail the self-study on June 30, 2003. Our site visit is scheduled for September 8, 2003. Darla Wilson, our Compliance Officer has been the organizer and detail person for the self study and with her expert guidance we are on schedule Text Box: and still sane. We continue to be proud of the work we do. Everyone; staff, treatment foster families, and the Board of Directors works to make our programs meet the needs of children and families in New Mexico. We all work together to help our clients improve the quality of their lives. We provide what we promise.

The program was originally started with funds given to us by the Future Fund of the Albuquerque Community Foundation. We decided to continue the program in Text Box: housing acquisition. Patricia Correa, LPC, continues to run the groups. Other areas addressed by the training include: leisure time, emotional well-being and self-awareness, parenting, decision-making, health and safety, pregnancy awareness, values, transportation and mobility.
